Good sign
Turtle in coffee grounds and tea leaves: meaning
Cicely Kent ties the turtle to wealth, and the Turkish dictionary links it to news from far away and a meeting with a good-looking person. Kent's list of symbols has separate entries for the turtle and the tortoise, and the two mean different things.

Turkish tradition
In the Turkish dictionary the turtle (kaplumbağa) means news that arrives from far away. The entry adds that the sign also stands for meeting a good-looking person.
Western tea-leaf books
Kent writes that the turtle is significant of wealth and luxury. Highland Seer has no turtle entry.
In combination with other signs
- Tortoise, a separate entry. In Kent's separate tortoise entry, the sign means attempting something of which one has no knowledge.
- A clearly defined sign (general rule of Kent). Kent states this for any sign, not only the turtle: clearly defined symbols that stand out separately are more important than those that are hard to discern.
- Cup and saucer (general rule of kp.ru). The kp.ru article has a general rule rather than a turtle entry: the cup shows events of the future and the saucer events of the past.
Common questions
- What does a turtle mean in coffee grounds?
- Kent's entry gives wealth and luxury, and the Turkish dictionary gives news from afar and a meeting with a good-looking person. None of woman.ru, kp.ru, riamo.ru and fb.ru has a turtle entry.
- Is a turtle a good sign in tea leaves?
- Only Kent and the Turkish dictionary have a turtle reading, and neither calls it a bad sign.
